With the surge that has accompanied
video entertainment, our target market, adolescents and teens, have
lost much of the hidden benefits that result from pursuit of ‘old-school’
games: Social interaction, basic planning and reasoning, basic management
of assets, manual dexterity in creative skills and manipulations, and
last but not least, focus and dedication to craft that translates into
work ethic and are the absolute foundations for habits much later on
in their every day lives.
Odyssey Games’ mission is
to bring these forms of entertainment to the base of kids in America.
We'll present an exciting new approach to the discovering and enjoying
the type of games & hobbies that our kids need to have a balanced skill
set moving into their older years. It is our intention
to provide not only those products, but to provide a free place for the enjoyment
and most important, direct services to support the growth
and enjoyment in the games and hobbies that we sell. This is an exciting
opportunity for game enthusiasts and families seeking clean entertainment
to receive the best value for their time and money.
We believe that for American
kids to compete in a world market, they need this balance between the
fast-pace, modern technology and the low-drag creative unwinding that
play is supposed to be about. While we recognize the benefits of modern
technology, we want to ensure that good choices are available to parents
to involve their kids in a rounded exposure to great developmental models
of all kinds.
We believe that at the basic
level that starts with reading rules, interaction and the debate of
facts with peers, throwing dice to learn risk, and acceptance of competitive
growth as a means to victory and achieving ones goal.
James Bishop, the founder
of Odyssey Games, has long had involvement with games, comic books,
and wild stories of adventure. Among his favorites are the classical
Greek stories of the Trojan War and the Odyssey. These great literary
works are among many that evoke thoughts of fantasy flight to mythical
realms while still maintaining a link to reality through setting and
historical relevance.
In a logical segue, Mr. Bishop
felt that kids in America need to reconnect with their own imaginations
that they should manufacture thought not borne of a constant bombardment
of video imagery, but the application of their own expressions and dreams
to grow, learn, and solve problems. As a hobbyist grows in skill and knowledge
their sense of strength and accomplishment reflects well into their other life pursuits.
The planned design of our
stores with a few simply constructed props and wallpapers portraying
classical Greek art, myth and architecture combined with a lounge, comfortable furniture and
props designed to assist in game play, will present a new and exciting
setting for kids and parents alike to embark on that quest; a hobby
and game center where like-minded kids and their adult mentors can gather
for events and discover entertainment that should never be abandoned.
